In the IPL 2025 mega auction, significant pay cuts were witnessed for some of the top players who had earned staggering salaries in the IPL 2024 season.
The bidding war for batter Shreyas Iyer was the longest in IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah. A total of 103 bids were placed for Shreyas. Three teams (KKR, PBKS and DC) were in race to sign Shreyas. KKR placed the first bid and stopped bidding after the price reached ₹10 crore. PBKS eventually bought Shreyas for ₹26.75 crore.
England’s Sam Curran, a key player for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2024, had a massive pay cut in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Curran earned ₹18.5 crore in IPL 2024 but was purchased by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for a significantly lower amount of ₹2.4 crore, resulting in the highest pay cut of ₹16.1 crore for the season.
Another big name, Mitchell Starc, who had a commanding salary of ₹24.75 crore in IPL 2024, also faced a sharp pay reduction. He was picked by Delhi Capitals (DC) for ₹11.75 crore in IPL 2025, marking a pay cut of ₹13 crore.
Similarly, Sameer Rizvi experienced a salary reduction. His pay went down by ₹7.45 crore, although specific details about his IPL 2025 team and earnings weren’t disclosed.
These reductions reflect shifting dynamics in team strategies and player valuations as franchises strive for balance and budget optimization.
